Container Transposition

Scope of Work

Concept Design

At this port, train tracks cut through the terminal area and interrupt the flow of containers from the storage stacks and ships to the trucks transporting them to their destination. An ideal system would transfer containers at a rate of 2.,800 containers daily, divided into 3 loading and unloading areas (approx. 116 containers per hour at each station) that will need to be weighed and placed on trucks, with the same operation occurring for unloading.

The container transposition system is a complete overhaul of the system currently in place with the goal of allowing transportation in and out of the port facility in a fast and organized manner. Trucks arriving to the terminal, enter a gate system (3 at a time) and are unloaded by an overhead spreader (3 at a time). Once the containers are moved to the opposite side of the tracks, the truck pulls 25m forward to the loading area where containers leave the spreader loaded (3 at a time). The system has all 3 spreaders running simultaneously but each can be operated individually.

A control booth is placed above each truck lane allowing for direct control over operations, inspection, and traffic. Each module can accommodate up to 116 containers per hour inbound and 116 outbound (933 containers per 8 hour shift per module). The facility will work with 3 models to start with, totally 2,800 containers daily.
